Incomes Increase in the Power Regulation Based on the PI System
Energias de Portugal (EDP) is presenting the actions taken to adjust business after new REE (Spanish TSO) requirements in terms of Power Regulation and the new commercial restrictions model by the use of the PI System.
Starting from an obsolete application and energy losses in the curtailments (proportionally applied to nominal power and not to expected power) together with a non-user friendly environment and manual operations usage, EDP will present the actions and results obtained after the use of a new optimized algorithm including all wind farm restrictions and setpoints. This new algorithm built in an AF/Analytics and PI ACE environment with several protocols implemented from/to the PI System for automation (ICCP with Block5, PI2PI, OPC etc.) resulted in a non-attended system with operator supervision, a user-friendly system with alerting notifications and most important of all, an income increase.
Finally, EDP will talk about the importance of the EA agreement inside this strategy, the new global architecture design and the PI Integrator for Business Analytics usage.

Sergio Valencia Galán
Sergio Valencia Galán is the Data Governance Manager at EDPR in the Remote Operations and Performance Infrastructure Department.
He has over 9 years of experience with the PI System, and 17 years of experience in the Renewables Sector. He worked at DESA-Nuon from 2002-2005, and has been with EDP Renewables since 2005.
His major skills include SCADA expertise with 17 years of experience in real time system in wind power generation. Sergio is a member of the team that designed EDPR's dispatch center. He is currently responsible for PI infrastructure as well as data quality in EDPR.

Victor Marchena Alvarez
Víctor Marchena Álvarez has 11 years of experience in remote control and operations of wind farms and substations, as well as the activities related with their centralized management, interlocution with Grid Operators and Energy Markets. Responsible for define operation protocols and procedures, methods to maximize the production and incomes, comparing different scenarios, and optimize the energy market participation and its consequences in the operation. Victor has 11 years of experience in the Renewables Sector, and has been with EDP Renewables since 2006.
