Offshore activities are indexed at 1500 compared to onshore activities making it 15x more costly. Optimizing both service frequency and duration will improve the overall efficiency in producing electricity from offshore wind turbines. This talk covers 1) collaboration between on-site, site office and back office specialists through real time decision making, on location and on fact, and 2) access to real time data from relevant sensor locations through integration of the Esri and OSIsoft PI System platforms in an operational dashboard used for back office, site office and on-site technicians-one truth combining time and space.
A wind technician has access to real-time data streaming from OSIsoft PI Coresight displays and asset data from Esri ArcGIS. When replacing parts or restarting components, it is possible for on-site personnel to view corrective maintenance effects through mobile access of the OSIsoft PI System. The back office specialist can guide the on-site wind technician and provide real-time operational intelligence using a similar dashboard. Simultaneously, the back office technician can inspect the WTG (wind turbine generator) and can ask the on-site wind technician to follow up on any other findings identified using PI Coresight. This capability allows the back office technician to have visual inspection of the equipment without having to be physically present and provides immediate feedback resulting from the corrections. The responsible offshore logistics in the site office can also follow corrective maintenance inspections and can see immediate effects provided by the dashboard. The real-time data provided from the dashboard also make it possible for the site office planner to estimate when a task may be completed.
The Esri GeoEvent functionality allows the offshore planner to get an overview of potential offshore activities and can then issue appropriate work orders. Frequency, in an offshore wind context, is avoiding unplanned corrective services offshore. The real-time feedback from corrective maintenance, in terms of duration, will lead to more efficient service, reducing the time spent offshore. Wait time because of slow data flow is reduced; while service time is optimized because better, informed decisions can be made using real-time data. The implementation of the PI System and Esri ArcGIS project has a potential annual cost saving of 20 Million EUR.
