Improving Process Performance Across Multiple Sites with an Enterprise-wide PI System Infrastructure
The DuPont Industrial Biosciences (IB) business unit—formerly known as “Genencor, A Danisco Division”—is a world leader in the manufacture of Industrial enzymes. Local PI Systems play a key role in monitoring and optimizing the production processes in DuPont IB facilities spread across four continents. To facilitate standardization of equipment, processes and products, there was a need to provide a fast mechanism for sharing the local PI System data between sites. This presentation describes the server and client solution implemented to improve sharing of this critical process data. It will describe the implementation of and value achieved by an enterprise-wide PI System, an Excel batch-focused comparison and analysis tool, and a phased implementation plan.

MATHIAS HOLMGARD is an automation engineer at DuPont Industrial Biosciences in Hanko, Finland; he started working there for Genencor in 2005. His responsibilities have expanded to include the PI System administrator role for the local PI Systems in Hanko and Jokioinen, Finland as well as the central PI System.

PETER LUNDQVIST started working for Genencor in 1995 as a fermentation process engineer. He has filled Technology Manager and Subject Matter Expert roles for sites in Finland and the U.S. Lundqvist is presently leading a global team of engineers whose focus is to improve fermentation processes in all R&D and manufacturing locations.
