The fundament of all process optimizations is the data, historical data that was generated in earlier production or data generated in R&D runs. 60% - 80% of the time is used to search, combine and cleanse the data before you can start using it. Therefore, Lonza decided to improve the workflow by implementing a data management system based on OSIsoft PI System and CAMO Process Pulse. All univariate data will be captured in PI System and Process Pulse manages multivariate data. The presentation will demonstrate the capabilities of the infrastructure by demonstrating a use case of running a pilot with online mass spectra data, production data and manual entered data. This enables the process experts to evaluate the data in real-time by statistical and chemometrics tools. The combination of OSIsoft PI System and CAMO Process Pulse enables efficient implementation and use of powerful multivariate monitoring methods that contributes to improve the operational profit.

Tobias Merz
Dr. Tobias Merz started in 2009 after finalizing his PhD work at the University of Ulm in Lonza Ltd. in Switzerland as an analytical chemist. He built up an expert team for online analytical technologies and chemometrics. This global group focuses on four key elements of the QbD philosophy: DoE, MVA, PAT and statistics. The aim of the group is to increase expertise in this field and connect different experts within the Lonza network together to share best practices. Currently, he took over the role as a global operational technology manager to bring his expertise into operations.
