SECURE Energy Services' Processing, Recovery, and Disposal division operates Full Service Terminals, Stand-Alone Water Disposal Facilities, Landfills, and Full Service Rail Terminals that serve its customers in the oil and gas industry with the safe treatment and disposal of their oilfield by-products. With the success of the PI System at liquids facilities, SECURE is targeting other high-payback opportunities including heavy equipment optimization at landfills.
Crawler dozers are the highest cost production asset at landfills and their efficient operation is at the TaxonomyItemHtml of optimizing the entire landfill process. The primary goal for the project is to reduce the cost per ton of waste accepted which requires a thorough understanding of owning and operating costs and their contributing factors, as well as effective fill planning.
The out of the box telematics systems provided by the original equipment manufacturers do not meet the project requirements for the following reasons:
- Pre-defined metrics are not sufficient to fill the information needs of this unique application SECURE has a mixed fleet and the same information is required across all OEM equipment
- OEM data is typically locked in a proprietary system and ownership/accessibility can be problematic
- The largest value comes from the ability to blend this data with financial and maintenance data which is not easily possible with OEM applications
- This information must be automated and near-real time to be effective SECURE wants to leverage its knowledge base with existing end-user tools
To fulfill these requirements SECURE engaged OSIsoft Technology Partner SYMBOTICWARE, who has a tested and robust solution to seamlessly collect, connect and feed this actionable information back to SECURE's PI System users. With SYMBOTICWARE wireless M2M infrastructure and deployment of SymBot® platform on major assets, SECURE will be able to interface and pull standardized data from all major assets anywhere at any time. This project, which contains several other components related to weather and leachate monitoring, is expected to show a 15 year internal rate of return of 31%. With oil prices forecasted to remain under pressure in 2015, optimization of existing assets and processes is becoming a big focus."
