Itaipu, a hydroelectric power plant located in the border of Brazil and Paraguay, is the world leader in clean and renewable energy. It has produced more than 2.3 billion MWh since it started operating in 1984. In 2016, with 20 generating units totalizing 14,000 MW of installed power, Itaipu has crossed for the first time ever the 100 million MWh milestone for a single year, establishing its new own record as well as the new annual power generation record for a hydroelectric power plant, reaching a total production of 103.1 million MWh
The main goal of the presentation is to present the Itaipu PI System Infrastructure in terms of present and future architecture and usage. The presentation will describe the studies and activities being developed within the scope of the EA program and the role of the PI System concerning the Itaipu Technological Modernization Plan. This plan includes the complete modernization of the supervision, control, automation, protection and monitoring systems. The Technological Modernization Plan will significantly increase the digitalization degree of the plant, being expected to increase to over 200,000 tags.
