Fleet-wide SAGD Well Production Data Analysis using OSIsoft PI System and TIBCO Spotfire

StatOil Canada produces ~20,000 bbl / day of heavy oil using InSitu steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) production processes at its Leismer facility. StatOil is actively working to optimize the SAGD wells at the Leismer facility to increase bitumen production and lower steam-oil ratios. The Leismer facility has over 5 years of high-resolution well production and sensor data stored in OSIsoft’s PI Server. Tibco Spotfire was used for assisting production & reservoir engineers with well pad and full field optimization due to both the sheer volume of data involved and the need to provide self-serve analytic capabilities. This talk discusses the implementation of a SAGD in PI Asset Framework and the use of PIOLEDB Enterprise as a data connectivity layer for Spotfire. Using the PI System and Spotfire, StatOil dramatically reduced data acquisition and data cleansing time requirements, improved and well optimization cycles, improved accessibility to production data metrics and shortened decision making time.
