Achieving optimal and repeatable results in a paper mill is complicated by many factors including natural variation in raw materials, differences in operator judgment during production, step changes to process settings between paper grades, and latency between comparable product runs. Port Townsend Paper Corporation and sister company Crown Packaging are tackling these and other challenges in innovative ways with the PI System. You will see how the PI System can help capture, document, and visualize the real time effects of operator control decisions in order to better manage the paper process, meet specifications, and control costs. You will also see how a PI System can help turn off-quality or high-cost events into opportunities to capture institutional knowledge, change operator behavior, justify capital improvements, and enable better ROI decision making.
