Genentech/Roche is a global biopharmaceutical company that manufactures and markets drugs to address significant unmet medical needs. The South San Francisco campus, which is the US headquarters for Roche, is a complex, large 60+ building site housing Research and Development, Process Development, Manufacturing and Administrative functions. At the South San Francisco campus, the Genentech Facilities Data Technologies (FDT) need to address issues of aging facilities, better alarm management, site-wide energy management and other sustainability initiatives. Genentech leveraged their PI System real-time infrastructure using a centralized data approach resulting in continuity across multiple field assets used to collect and report data. Centralizing this data via the PI System offers a consistent and easy-to-use interface that the Energy and Sustainability teams utilize to make informed decisions to improve the campus' energy efficiency resulting in lower operational costs. Additionally, the PI System provides the essential backbone for real-time alarms, improving safety, reliability and legitimacy.
