PI Coresight was renamed PI Vision in 2017
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is embarking on a 6.9 billion dollar Sewer System Capital Improvement Program. This program will provide needed upgrades/replacements for the aging infrastructure of the wastewater collection and treatment plant facilities. Included in the program is an upgrade of the DCS for the entire Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) that will more than double the number of monitoring points. Availability of wastewater treatment and storage data for internal operations, administration, regulatory compliance and public use is in increasing demand. WWE operates and maintains the City’s combined sewer system which collects and treats both sewage and storm water. The system includes 1,000 miles of piping, 27 pump stations, 3 treatment plants and 8 deep water outfalls. WWE’s PI System was installed two years ago and currently has over 10,000 tags, which are used to monitor the collection and treatment processes. Implementations of PI DataLink, PI Coresight, PI ProcessBook and PI Notifications have proven to be very effective.
In this presentation WWE will share their experiences with how the PI System components have been integrated within their Enterprise. Some examples of the applications and benefits achieved with the PI System will be presented, such as critical email alerts received through PI Notifications that prevented fines, accessing other databases such as STARLIMS by using link tables in PI Asset Framework (PI AF) and implementing PI Coresight to mimic DCS information for access from the Business Network. The future is clear and bright. WWE is working with DST to integrate PI AF with our Asset management program - Maximo. WWE currently has 360,000 assets, of which 4,000 are worth $5,000 or more. The goal is to develop an easy way to keep track all assets using PI AF and to create automatic work orders for predictive maintenance, cutting costs in labor and catastrophic failure."
