MEG Energy first implemented a PI Server in 2009 shortly after reaching production capacity on our pilot plant which produced 3,000 bbls per day. Instantly our operations department saw the value in using the PI System and decided to promote the use of the PI System through the growth of our operations. MEG is now averaging more than 70,000 bbls per day and is well on track to produce approximately 80,000 bbls per day in 2015. Our PI System implementation continues to grow with the oil production. In addition many other departments followed operations in using the PI System data for intelligent decision making and reporting. Production engineering relies heavily on archived PI System data to monitor the steam injection, pump operations, as well as production at the well level. Our regulatory department relies on PI System data not only to comply with some of the most stringent environmental regulations in the world but to go beyond compliance. Marketing department relies on the PI System to make smart decisions about marketing our oil or storing it at our storage facility. Throughout the growth of our operations we have increased the number of interfaces and third party integrations that center on the PI Server. MEG Energy owes much of its intelligent decision making to the reliability and availability of the PI System data. The benefits of using the PI Server as the “single-truth” where the PI Archives are never altered and provide the same source of process data for all the different reports and tools that rely on the data will be discussed.
