The three sectors primarily responsible for the most energy consumption are buildings, industry, and transportation. Countries that lead in energy efficiency will be better positioned to compete in a global economy, not wasting money on energy that can be saved or reinvested. Not only is energy a major component of most businesses production costs; the last 30 years have taught us that energy price volatility is here to stay. “What can we do to better manage these costs?” “How can we better utilize our valuable renewable and nonrenewable resources?” This paper looks at the role of a Streaming Data and Event Infrastructure as an enabler in facilitating an Energy Management Strategy. Each company will have unique solutions because their situation is a combination of energy, process and local opportunities. However each solution is empowered by the access to streaming data and events. “You can’t improve what you can’t measure”, it is the streaming data and event infrastructure that makes all the measurements available to the business.
