Enabling Distributed Energy: Route to Market Service Through the PI System
PI Coresight was renamed PI Vision in 2017
It was mentioned in passing, that Centrica was not going to win a route to market service as other companies could provide portals that we could not. The PI System development team in Centrica had to move quickly. They had two weeks to design and deploy an innovative AF solution, with PI Coresight visualisations and ability to interface to in-house systems, PowerBI and Sharepoint Online. After successfully winning the contract, the real work began. There were now only 8 weeks to build, test and deploy a robust solution for the client. They also had to work out how they were going to start and stop a station remotely.

Chris Cody has worked in a variety of operational and commercial roles in the power industry in a career spanning 20 years. He has been using the PI System to develop innovative solutions to real-world operational problems throughout that time. Chris now heads a Continuous Improvement team within the merchant power business at Centrica, identifying and delivering improvements throughout the value chain.

Chris Fisher has a MSc. Finance from the University of Durham (UK), and has worked for 5 major energy utility firms over 15 years across the energy industry, the last 5 being with Centrica Plc. He has worked in a variety of roles including, demand forecasting, development and optimisation of generation assets enabling him to build a wealth knowledge of the UK market. Chris is now a manager of a 24-7 shift team that optimises the full range of Centrica’s strategic assets throughout Europe overseeing all dispatch and intra-day trading. He is also the Change Management lead on behalf of Centrica’s Generation Planning and Logistics department and has been responsible for 12 major system projects worth over £35million.
