Devon Energy has over 700 wells across its business units outfitted with electric submersible pumps (ESPs). ESPs, a form of artificial lift, are subjected to enormous physical stresses, especially in unconventional plays. When ESPs fail, the combined costs for workover, replacement, and deferred production are large. The Devon ESP Analysis Tool helps engineers and operators identify ESPs performing outside of manufacturer’s specifications in real-time, improving the chances of correction before a failure occurs. Also, by providing downtime and production statistics, underperforming wells are identified for remediation. The PI System provides the real-time and hierarchal backbone with the PI Servers and PI Asset Framework. This presentation will outline the problem and opportunity, as well as discuss the architecture and implementation of the Devon ESP Analysis Tool.
