Investigations into the operational performance of our brownstock washing systems lead to a need to develop a common PI System based display that could be used for the 20+ rotary vacuum drum washer lines in our chemical pulp mills. Several objectives were defined. Firstly, this effort helped to define the KPIs of value to track. Secondly, by creating a template of common KPIs we could minimize the rework at our chemical mill sites. Thirdly, once completed we could use these KPIs to benchmark performance against the other vacuum drum washer lines in our mills. A multi-layered hierarchy was defined for users from operators to General Managers. A small team consisting of representatives from mill operations, IT, and corporate technical resources as well as 2 OSIsoft engineers was assembled and in a period of 2 working days we defined the necessary roadmap to begin work. The final product is complete and ready to roll out to the other mills. The steps taken to see this to completion are discussed.
