Equipment management is the overall management of site-specific processes and activities utilized through the entire lifecycle of a machine. This cycle begins with the delivery of the machine and continues through the day-to-day operation and maintenance to major repairs and rebuilds. Every decision made during this cycle will have an impact on the cost per ton achieved. Whether by supporting a customer with a Maintenance and Repair Contract, benchmarking a site using the Site Assessment Tool, or utilizing one of the many other tools and resources, equipment management is focused on maximizing the value of the customer's machines and products.
Condition monitoring is a key maintenance and repair process and impacts overall equipment management. Caterpillar defines condition monitoring as a "proactive analysis process using equipment and application data from multiple sources to make informed application, maintenance, component replacement and repair decisions." Data availability from today's machines is increasing in quantity and frequency. Caterpillar is working with OSIsoft to manage this vast amount of data and turn data into information. This presentation will:
Provide a brief introduction to Caterpillar
Define condition monitoring at Caterpillar
Explain how condition monitoring fits as part of an overall Mining Equipment Management Approach
Discuss how Caterpillar and Caterpillar dealers are working with OSIsoft to manage data, turn the data into information, and deliver customer value.
