The PI System is traditionally known for its time-series data repository. This presentation explores how PI AF is affecting the management of PI Tags and associated metadata and why PI AF matters to the utility business. After an overview of unified standards, IEC 61970/61968 Common Information Model (CIM) and substation IEC 61850 and their benefits for utilities, the presentation discusses a number of use cases where synergy is emerging between the models and PI AF as well as how they are managed by the SISCO CIM Adapter for the OSIsoft PI System. Finally the presentation discusses the opportunities, the applications, and how they can be used to manage the correlation of context and PI Tags.
