Ensuring reliable transmission of electricity is one of the key challenges at CEPS as a TSO (Transmission System Operator). As part of CEPS’ long-term strategy, PMU technology (Phasor Measurement Unit) was implemented across the most important parts of the extra high-voltage grid. This technology leverages a real-time awareness system to detect irregular network behavior that could impact the stability of the grid. However, the technology also generates new business challenges that need to be addressed. A key success in turning data into actionable information is by integrating all types (categories) of data, such as existing SCADA measurements, PMU signals and different parameters of the grid, in one central repository. In this presentation, CEPS will show different types of data integrated using the PI System and high quality operational displays. After the implementation of the PI System, CEPS’s operations team has a system that enables better TaxonomyItemHtml-cause analysis, reduces the reaction time when an instability happens on the grid and is the foundation for an early warning system.
