PI Coresight was renamed PI Vision in 2017
In order to ensure uniform measurement of energy loss, an Energy KPI system was developed at the Danube Refinery using the PI Asset Framework. There are 6 levels of the Energy KPI system to match the structure and complexity of the site. The main operating parameters and energy consumption of assets can be found at the lowest level of the hierarchy. These are controlled by the Energy Monitoring System (EMS). The EMS is an effective hardware and software ecosystem to reduce energy loss, operational energy cost and environmental load by ensuring energy efficient operations. During the implementation the key assets (from an energy point of view) have to be identified. The EMS is a DCS level system where the calculated actual and target consumptions are displayed for the operators in real time, which can lead to decreased time to reach the energy efficient operation. To ensure this DCS alerts are configured to indicate deviation from economical operation.
The EMS also contains an expert system, a visualisation tool that is implemented with PI System components. The expert system contains online displays built with PI Coresight. The system also contains Excel spreadsheets which evaluate wasted energy based on information gathered with PI Events and with PI DataLink. These statistical calculations are used to create management reports. The system also includes a notification application (based on PI Notifications) which informs experts of deviations. The notification system has different levels and the application ranks the energy waste according to the cost."
