Bringing Time and Space Together for Operational Awareness in Waste Water
Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) has a vast service area covering 17 localities throughout Virginia. As a result, visualizing the status of their collection system quickly and effectively is a challenge. The PI System collects and stores HRSD’s Telog meter data, which includes flows, pressures, wet well levels, pump runtime events and rainfall. With the release of the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS, HRSD has combined Telog meter data with asset information on the ArcGIS platform for operators to find geographic patterns and perform geospatial analysis. Working with OSIsoft, HRSD has developed a pilot ArcGIS Operational Dashboard that can quickly inform users of the “Top 10 Pressures” in the system; show a histogram of pressure distribution in the collection system; allow selection of multiple assets to analyze the average, sum, and KPIs; and provide efficient trend charts. With near real-time meter data on the ArcGIS platform, information such as the meter type, meter elevation, installation date, and specific comments about the site and/or meter are now easily visualized. Overall, the combination of OSIsoft’s PI System and Esri ArcGIS has brought time and space of HRSD’s collection system data to life on a map and improved access, efficiency, and understanding of the system."
