The presentation summarizes positive experiences of RHI Magnesita with OSIsoft tools (e.g. Notification, PI Integrator and PI Data Link) for optimization of products and production processes. With the help of examples the presentation offers an insight into the numerous ways how the PI System is successfully used as standard tool for process analytics at RHIM.
We show how we reveal the treasures hidden in process data. How to deal with complex structured and huge data quantities? How to make the data accessible and ready for interpretation - not only for data scientists?
How to save time by challenging the data interactively and to go directly to the analysis phase? Our successful path will be demonstrated together with our partner VRVis, who creates analytical applications enabling to discover and understand findings in process data with unique visualizations. As additional use cases, the presentation covers new approaches to batch analysis, impact factor identification and anomaly detection.

After School I went to the Mining University of Leoben and studied Applied Geoscience. I finished my studies in 2004 and started to work at a Consultant Company for Processing and Geology. In 2008 I started at RHI Magnesita in the Department of Process Technology which is located at R&D. My tasks as a project manager is to analyze and improve the processing steps mixing and pressing. Additional I´m responsible for our Process Information Management System where we use our PI-tools since 2007. Together with one colleague I cover all parts of our usage of PI. This includes interface to IT, tag administration, internal support & expert analysis and improvement of our applications. Since 2012 I´m also the Head of the Department

Harald Piringer
Dr. Harald Piringer studied Informatics at the Vienna University of Technology. After finishing the master degree in 2003, he has been working at the VRVis research center in Vienna, where he became the head of the research area Visual Analytics in 2010. His work focuses on designing and building interactive systems for data science and decision making. Collaborations include company partners from the automotive sector, manufacturing, energy, finance, aviation, infrastructure, pharmaceutical, and facility management. Dr. Piringer got his PhD with highest distinction from the Vienna University of Technology in 2012, and has (co-)authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, and received multiple best paper awards.
