Blockchain and the PI System: A case study on Asset Lifecycle Management
OSIsoft Research is actively exploring blockchain technology. We are working together with Blocxs, a blockchain startup company based in Amsterdam. Blocxs has performed a case study on how the PI System could be used in conjunction with blockchain technology to track and manage the lifecycles of assets. In this session we will introduce blockchain as a technology, look at one implementation (HyperLedger Fabric) and share thoughts where this might take us. Our goal for this session is to start a dialog among OSIsoft, our customers and our partners on how this revolutionary technology could solve some of the challenges that we are facing. All of us want to be ready for the potential disruption that blockchain brings. This session is a first step down that path of discovery.

Johan Mulder
At 18, Johan founded his first company delivering web applications for companies. Johan worked for several System Integrators, Partners and ISV's building business applications and frameworks within the Microsoft technology stack. Being passionate and enthused of the evolving world of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, Johan studied the principles of blockchain while thinking of its practicalities in the real world. Together with two other blockchain-enthusiasts Marco Wieling and Peter Kranenburg the idea for the Blocxs foundation and the Blocxs company where born. The foundation aims to inform and educate about blockchain for consumers and corporations while the company will offer commercial services and products based on blockchain or distributed ledger technologies by using a use-case first approach. Our motto is to keep things simple so everyone can benefit from blockchain-driven solutions.

Michael joined OSIsoft in 2011. Before that he worked for one of our partners for 5 years, developing applications on top of the PI System. Michael joined first as a vCampus Team member (now PI DevClub) to later join OSIsoft’s engineering department as part of the team that developed PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. Recently, Michael has moved to OSIsoft Research to explore his newfound passion: blockchain technology.
