Learn to leverage the PI System to enrich your data science curriculum. Projects based on PI System data will allow your students to work with real datasets, develop data analysis skills, and learn to extract knowledge and insights from data. Since many universities use the PI System to support campus operations, there is a goldmine of data sets that could be explored.
Learn how diverse data sets, including real-time process data, may be seamlessly delivered to students. You will be introduced to OSIsoft tools including the PI Integrator for BA, the PI Integrator for ESRI ArcGIS, and the PI Web API. You will also learn how the PI System can be easily integrated with machine learning using open source tools such as R.
We share content that you can access and repurpose for your Big Data projects. We share a machine learning exercise that was developed for an OSIsoft learning TechLab. The goal of the lab is to predict imminent equipment failure using sensor data and failure history. The lab walks through the end-to-end data science process - preparing the dataset, visually exploring it, partitioning the data for training and testing, validating the models using previously unseen data, and finally deploying the model for predictive maintenance. We discuss methods to access both historical and live-streaming sensor data for machine learning."

Erica Trump
Erica Trump is the Instructional Systems Designer for the OSIsoft Academic Program. In this role, she works with professors to leverage the PI System to improve educational outcomes. She’s also developing learning modules for lab-based and data science courses. Erica joined OSIsoft in 2014 after completing her PhD in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. She earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from WVU.

Gopal Gopalkrishnan
Gopal Gopalkrishnan has been involved in several roles at OSIsoft and has been working with the PI System since the mid-1990s in software development, technical and sales support and field services. Attached to the Philadelphia office, he is currently a Solution Architect in the Partners & Strategic Alliances Group. Previously he was a Product Manager with a focus on Enterprise and Asset Integration and PI Data Access. Gopal has a master's degree in engineering, continuing education in business administration and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania. He is also active in the MESA Technical Committee and the MESA Continuous Process Industry Special Interest Group and active in topics such as data mining, energy efficiency, manufacturing intelligence, sustainability, including green initiatives in facilities and data centers.
