For years, PSE&G has conducted a successful program for asset management and asset strategy. Now, the utility has begun to leverage newly available Business Intelligence technologies to provide interactive reporting and analytical depth to their asset risk assessment program. Within the PSE&G service area are thousands of substation assets that provide the data required for the condition assessment algorithms used in the program. This data needs to be presented in a concise, actionable manner to enable decision making, i.e. grid operations and engineering, network design, asset strategy, budget planning, etc. In addition, tools that allow users to perform ad hoc analysis within the same presentation environment are essential. Gaining valuable intelligence on how various factors (either time-based or business process-based) that can affect performance can be critical in preventing future failures, supporting continuous improvement and benefit the financial investment of the utility. This talk will describe how PSE&G is using recently available technologies to empower utility asset management team users through enterprise data access and integration, enhanced visualization and analysis in a collaborative environment. Examples will illustrate IT and OT convergence by demonstrating the application of the latest technology with the needs of the business for operational decision making. This approach quickly promotes a better understanding of the vast amount of substation asset condition assessment information to any group throughout the enterprise.
