Today, companies struggle with gaining greater asset awareness for improved Operations & Maintenance (O&M) spend and making the right decisions in Capital Expenditures (CAPEX). The newer field of Asset Analytics offers greater insight into asset condition, but the Doble Engineering Company is seeing that analytics are just one step in a longer process. The most interesting gains happen after the analytics are done. The beauty of the PI System and OSIsoft tools is they offer one version of the truth with many ways to slice the data. With the PI System and OSIsoft applications at the core of the Doble Asset Risk Management System (dobleARMS™), Doble is leveraging this “one version of the truth” to move beyond analytic results that typically feed a single business function to a point where blending results with another business function offers a new perspective. The authors will discuss how a common set of analytics searches for low frequency events that have a high-cost to the business, and how these analytics simultaneously track against the long-term view of assets on “watch” due to age, manufacturer, health, etc. Beyond asset health, assets are further evaluated for a variety of “risks,” which include: Financial, Political, Capacity, Environment, Safety and Regulatory. By continuing to leverage the strengths of the PI System and move beyond analytic results to consolidated views that allow us to rethink traditional business practices, Doble is seeing a paradigm-shift and productivity improvements in the way companies can better target asset issues.

Ms. Ayers joined Doble Engineering company in 2010 as the Solutions Manager for the Doble Asset Risk Management System (dobleARMS™), Smart Grid and Knowledge Services. Her focus is on evolving strategies around the strategic management of assets. She has garnered thirty years of experience; twenty-four in providing solutions in the power industry, and is a recognized thought leader with a reputation for innovation. Her recent experience includes a two-year, head-to-toe deployment of a full Smart Grid solution—Xcel Energy’s SmartGridCity™—where she developed the concept of substations as the Roll-up Report Card for the Smart Grid. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with utilities and with SCADA (EMS and DMS), DA, Substation, Metering, Smart Grid and GIS vendors desiring to link real-time data to their applications and throughout the corporation.
