PI Coresight was renamed PI Vision in 2017
In 2014, OSIsoft and China Southern Grid Electric Power Research Institute kicked off a joint Smart Grid collaboration project funded by USTDA (United States Trade and Development Agency). The project objective is to utilize the PI System infrastructure to enable data integration from distribution operations, substations and consumer & industrial and residential meters to improve the reliability & efficiency of the electric grid. The team was able to accomplish significant business values including building a complete China Southern Grid Common Information Model (CIM), distribution loss analysis, loading analysis and reliability indexes (i.e. SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, CAIFI and MAIFI) analysis, etc. The goal of the project was to incorporate data driven analytics to solve critical business cases including analyzing the consumer energy efficiency, energy consumption behavior, and forecasting customer energy consumption behavior analysis. The team collaborated with Microsoft to leverage Microsoft's cloud-based predictive analysis service, Azure ML, along with Power BI dashboards, and PI Server 2015 on Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS Service) on China Azure. This presentation will show how this project has enabled an end to end (e2e) operationalized pipeline to analyze 2-year of end-to-end distribution data from 220kV substation down below to the end points, by using Microsoft Azure with PI Server 2015 as system of record and real-time analytics, and leveraging operationalized Azure ML web services with Azure Data Factory for predictive analysis, then writing back to PI Server 2015 as future data, as well as visualizing in Power BI Dashboards and PI Coresight.
