AMI Smart Connectors to Advanced/Smart Metering and AMI Interfaces
Energy demands are increasing faster than delivery infrastructures and traditional generation can supply. Massive demand at peak usage times are causing distribution grid instability, often unrecognized until catastrophic failure, and forcing energy producers to use highly inefficient, highly polluting generators. Energy suppliers of the future require accurate and timely information, and they must share the information with customers to maintain grid stability and shift demand off peak. Today little information about the condition of the grid is available, forcing those responsible to guess about its state. Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) are an essential part of the equation for solving this problem. OSIsoft is applying our real-time expertise to bring the promise of Smart Meters, integrated utility business systems and AMI to reality. This presentation provides an overview of the OSIsoft AMI scope and describes the technologies we are use to support end-to-end AMI.

Erwin Gove
Erwin Gove, who works on the Smart Connector and Advanced Meter Infrastructure Initiatives at OSIsoft, graduated Cal Poly with Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. Erwin started his engineering career as a thermal performance engineer where he was involved in managing and developing system and component monitoring, data acquisition and analysis. Erwin also got involved in the electrical power generation industry. As a consultant working for PG&E he was involved in the development and deployment of large scale performance monitoring systems. Erwin was instrumental in the founding of Industrial Peer-to-Peer, Inc. At Industrial Peer-to-Peer his responsibilities included all aspects of running a software business. Most importantly he co-developed a sophisticated data acquisition, control and archival product called Distributed Network Architecture. In 1999 Industrial Peer-to-Peer assets were acquired by InStep Software, LLC. Erwin continued their work at InStep where they evolved their product known today as eDNA. Erwin came to OSIsoft in November, 2007.
