Advanced Grid Control Success Story
Learn how Sempra Renewables has implemented the PXiSE Advanced Control Technology (ACT) microgrid solution at a 24MW wind farm for successful additional wind “firming”, constant power control, frequency watch control and island frequency control. PXISE uses data from four PMUs at 60 Hz and controls both the real and reactive power output from the inverters and battery systems that are available for control. Additionally, the control system maintains the battery state of charge (SOC) within user-defined limits as well equalizes the SOC of each container. The system also shows that not only can the island frequency be controlled using one fast battery system, but also that the wind farm output can be regulated to a constant value as well as following “curtailment” commands from the local electric utility.
