Seeq is an advanced analytical application fully integrated with the PI Data Archive and PI Asset Framework. Seeq delivers a hybrid approach to analytics, easily combining first principals, statistics, and machine learning. Seeq’s approach brings self-service analytics for engineers and scientists, collaboration and knowledge capture for teams, and publishing and real time views for managers and operators.
In this presentation Seeq will explain and demonstrate the value-adding analytical capabilities through 2 use cases:
• Predictive maintenance of heat exchangers. This use leverages ML techniques to create heat exchanger fouling model. The model is used to optimize maintenance schedules. The asset-swapping capabilities of PI Asset Framework are leveraged to scale one model to many heat exchangers.
• Reliability in Upstream O&G Equipment. Upstream oil collection systems have emergency shutdown systems to protect against damage. When the trip activates, rapid valve closure causes water hammering, which in turn cases mechanical damage to the system, vessels and/or cause relief valves or rupture disks to blow, with safety, reliability, and environmental impacts. The goal is to detect when it occurs, and eliminate the problem longer term.
Both use cases will be presented via a live demonstration showing the creation of the analyses as well as the key visual elements such as histograms and unique trending.
Speaker
Jon Peterson
A co-Founder of Seeq, Jon creates harmony between customer requirements and product development.
Jon began his career as a process engineer and software developer for process industries. Prior to Seeq, Jon spent 21 years at OSIsoft where he held leadership roles as VP of Engineering and VP of Marketing.
Jon earned his bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University. The curriculum involved writing computer programs to solve engineering problems, which sparked his interest in software and a goal to engage in the software industry.
Jon spent the 10 years following graduation working in the process industries. As a process engineer he worked in a wide range of areas including asset optimization, energy management, advanced control and process equipment design. Software and programming were used extensively to address challenges. In 1992 Jon joined OSIsoft, then called Oil Systems, Inc., as a software developer. OSIsoft offered a unique opportunity to become a professional software developer building products for the process industries.
At OSIsoft Jon initially wrote connectors between control systems and OSIsoft’s real-time data management product called the PI System. Jon joined a small team to create the next generation real-time data management system—PI Server 3.0. Jon was instrumental in the architecture, design and coding of the PI Server. The PI Server is recognized as the industry standard and has nearly 15,000 installations worldwide.
Jon also held leadership roles of VP Engineering and VP Marketing at OSIsoft. During Jon’s tenure as engineering lead OSIsoft saw fast growth in customers as well as in the product line. Two notable accomplishments during this time was High Availability functionality added across the entire product suite and the creation of Managed PI—an automated service that assures optimal operation of OSIsoft products. Jon became Marketing VP for OSIsoft in 2008 this role involved many responsibilities including production of OSIsoft’s very popular Users’ Conferences.
Jon, his wife Meg and son Samuel live in Larkspur, CA. They all love outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and paddling on San Francisco Bay, mountain lakes and rivers.
