Advanced Analytics Best Practices Panel
Life after PI - Analytics on top of PI. In this panel we will explore how innovative teams went about extracting and exposing plant data for corporate analytics, models, and machine-learning algorithms. We will discuss the best practices that leading companies use to combine critical operational data with other kinds of information with powerful advanced analytics tools.

Osvaldo Bascur
Osvaldo A. Bascur received his B.S. Chemical Engineering and B.S. Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Concepcion, Chile and a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Utah, Salta Lake City. He was Process Control Engineer working for Duval Corporation, Tucson, AZ (now Freeport McMoRan). He was transferred to Pennzoil Company in Houston, TX (now Shell) where we worked as a Staff Engineer, in the process-engineering department. He is currently a Principal at OSIsoft, LLC in Houston, TX. Osvaldo has been with OSIsoft for more than 25 years. He received the SME 2013 Antoine Gaudin Award. He believes data in a strategic assets that requires special attending in the Digital Age. His current focus is the integration of sensors data for operating intelligence, artificial intelligence, asset and energy optimization. His work includes consulting for process industries, preparing academic lectures in process analysis and predictive analytics. Dr. Bascur is a member of the SME, AIST, AIChE and IFAC MMM.

After School I went to the Mining University of Leoben and studied Applied Geoscience. I finished my studies in 2004 and started to work at a Consultant Company for Processing and Geology. In 2008 I started at RHI in the Department of Process Technology which is located at R&D. My tasks as a project manager is to analyze and improve the processing steps mixing and pressing. Additional I´m responsible for our Process Information Management System where we use our PI-tools since 2007. Together with one colleague I cover all parts of our usage of PI. This includes interface to IT, tag administration, internal support & expert analysis and improvement of our applications. Since 2012 I´m also the Head of the Department

Harald Piringer VRVis GmbH
Dr. Harald Piringer studied Informatics at the Vienna University of Technology. After finishing the master degree in 2003, he has been working at the VRVis research center in Vienna, where he became the head of the research area Visual Analytics in 2010. His work focuses on designing and building interactive systems for data science and decision making. Collaborations include company partners from the automotive sector, manufacturing, energy, finance, aviation, infrastructure, pharmaceutical, and facility management. Dr. Piringer got his PhD with highest distinction from the Vienna University of Technology in 2012, and has (co-)authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, and received multiple best paper awards

Dexter Sun
Dexter Sun received the B.E. degree in automation from Tsinghua, China in 1991, and the M.E. degree in chemical engineering from China University of Petroleum in 1994.
He worked in China University of Petroleum, oil and gas companies (Suncor, Sinopec) and solution companies (Yokogawa, Honeywell) for over 25 years. He joined Beijing Bluestar Ltd in 2018 as director of process solution department. He has been working on process control and optimization solution, process simulation and data analysis on petrochemical processes and accomplished a large number of solution projects. Currently he is leading a team to develop and implement pattern operation monitor system providing real time prediction, optimization, monitor, device diagnostic for intelligent manufacturing process.
