OPC Unified Architecture is the next generation of OPC technology that provides a unified framework for accessing information in a consistent and reliable manner. Current OPC UA technology implements a Service Oriented approach and maps directly into Web Services. OSIsoft is currently developing a PI OPC UA Server product to access the PI System. This presentation provides an introduction to OPC UA technology and highlights its main components. It presents the features supported by PI OPC UA Server and discusses the benefits of using OPC UA to interface with the PI System.

Alisher Maksumov
Dr. Alisher Maksumov is a Software Development Group Lead at OSIsoft. Currently, his team is responsible for the development of OPC and OPC UA Products. He has been involved with the development of OPC products since he joined OSIsoft, 6 years ago, and he represents OSIsoft at the Technical Advisory Council of the OPC Foundation. He participates in major OPC Foundation events and gives presentations to promote the adoption of OPC technology. Alisher was involved in the development of the OPC UA standard and the implementation of OPC UA migration tools as part of the Early Adopters Program for the OPC Foundation. Prior to joining the company, Alisher spent two years as a post doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Davis. While at UC Davis, he worked on projects such as Advanced Process Monitoring and Control, Multivariate Statistical Analysis, and Microscopic Image Analysis. He has given numerous presentations and published several scientific papers in these areas. Alisher holds B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tashkent State Technical University.
