Why a Data Lake Alone can’t Replace Your PI System?
In recent years there have been many discussions about the relationship between a data lake and the PI System. In this talk you will see how the PI System, with all of its infrastructure features, is necessary for a successful data strategy. Data lakes can be useful as an economical aggregator of data from many sources. However, lack of context can quickly make them very hard to use.

John is able to leverage 40 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry in various business roles ranging from operations, process control, process technology and IT. The last 10 years of his career he was leading the Digital Transformation on an enterprise level for Shell. As part of the Shell journey John standardized the Shell real time data processing on the OSIsoft PI System and introduced the Super Collective concept (One-Stop-Shop for real time data). This collective formed the basis for the Smart Solutions Platform and accelerated the Digital Transformation of Shell significantly by standardization of technology, data model and business solutions.
