Historically, process data and asset data have remained in separate worlds. Technological advancements in wireless connectivity, sensors, cloud computing and AI are paving the way for integration of process control data and asset condition data. For industries, this translates to operational performance excellence. Barrick Gold Corporation has recently embarked on its digital transformation journey and in partnership with OSIsoft and Petasense, they recently integrated Petasense asset condition monitoring system with the OSIsoft PI system, at their Cortez plant in Elko, NV, USA. The primary goal is to optimize predictive maintenance outcomes. The integration of the two systems has equipped Reliability Engineers with a single interface to view process parameters alongside vibration data. It enables better planning, improved insights, powerful analytics and the ability to create predictive models. Initial results are promising - improved asset reliability, and reduced maintenance costs.
