OSIsoft PI System for Academic Research in Continuous Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (Rutgers,Purdue)
In this session, Rutgers University and Purdue University will share perspectives on continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing. Specifically, they will discuss the importance of data management and adherence to industry standards in academic research. You will learn how the universities used the OSIsoft PI System educate students about industry practices, address research challenges, and support research collaborations with industry. You will also learn how the universities worked with OSIsoft to jump-start their research projects and how they used tools such as the OSIsoft YouTube Learning Channel for internal training and continued learning.

Sudarshan Ganesh
Sudarshan Ganesh is a PhD Candidate at Purdue University with Profs Rex Reklaitis and Zoltan Nagy. His graduate research focuses on real-time process operations strategies for supervisory control and maintenance management in continuous drug product manufacturing. He is currently working on the FDA funded project on Industry 4.0 applications in continuous pharma mfg. The PI System setup in Purdue’s R&D pilot plant plays a central role in the implementation of Quality by Design along with Applied SmartFactory Rx and Emerson DeltaV.

Doug is currently the Associate Director of the Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems (C-SOPS) based at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA. C-SOPS focuses on the science based development of pharmaceutical products and processes. C-SOPS has been directly involved in working with major pharmaceutical companies and the FDA on some of the first processes for continuous manufacturing of pharmaceutical solid dose products.
