Halifax Water provides drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and fire protection services to approximately 400,000 residents of Halifax Regional Municipality. Halifax Water is internationally recognized as a leader in water loss control, a worldwide problem that sees over 1.7 trillion gallons of treated water lost annually in the United States alone. Halifax Water is a long time PI System user and will discuss how the PI System helped them achieve their water loss reduction goals.

Carl Yates
Carl Yates has extensive experience in the water utility profession having served as Project Engineer, Chief Engineer and General Manager of the Halifax Water Commission. In 1996, he was appointed General Manager of the Halifax Regional Water Commission which assumed a regional mandate after the municipal amalgamation of the greater Halifax area. In 2007, Yates oversaw the formation of the first regulated water, wastewater and stormwater utility in Canada with the transfer of wastewater/stormwater assets from the Halifax Regional Municipality. Halifax Water is a body corporate municipal utility, generating approximately 110 million dollars in annual revenue with assets of over $2 Billion.
Yates obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1984 and a Masters of Applied Science from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1992. Yates is Past Chair of the Potable Water Committee for the National Research Council InfraGuide project, Past Chair of the Security and Emergency Management Committee of the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association, Past Chair of the Research Strategy Committee of the Water Research Foundation, a Board member of the Canadian Water Network, a membehttps://www.eiseverywhere.com/images/close.pngr of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, the American Water Works Association Water Utility Council, the International Water Association, and a member of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Nova Scotia.
