PI Coresight was renamed PI Vision in 2017
Since the first implementation of the PI System at MOL's Danube refinery in 2006, the PI System has evolved from primarily a site "historian" to an integration and applications infrastructure across all MOL's Downstream operations which consists of five refineries, four petrochemical plants, and associated distribution and marketing in ten countries across Central Europe.
Many PI System based applications have been developed and rolled out consistently and efficiently across MOL?s culturally diverse refining and petrochemicals organization using a standardized infrastructure under the umbrella of MOL's Refining Information System (REFIS), which itself is based on the PI System. Applications range from LIMS integration, electronic operator log sheets, hierarchical KPIs, reporting, oil movements, yield accounting, and various maintenance applications to name a few. At MOL, the PI System has been transformational in normalizing languages and cultures, knowledge sharing, facilitating collaboration, and integrating work processes.
Because leveraging the PI System was so successful in normalizing and integrating MOL's refining and petrochemical organization, MOL's executive management decided to accelerate the vision of achieving true real-time integration and operational excellence by combining the process information (IT) and process automation groups into one forming the Refining Integrated Information and Automation Department.
The role that the PI System plays will be discussed, from the business drivers for the combination of the refining IT and automation groups and the associated goals and expectations, to the PI System?s place within the vision of MOL's journey to complete their goal of a real-time integrated downstream fuels and petrochemicals value chain across all their Central Europe assets.
Specific applications and case studies will be presented highlighting the use of PI AF, PI Notifications, PI WebParts, PI Coresight, PI Data Access, and PI DataLink to reinforce the PI Systems evolution to a true enterprise real-time integration and applications infrastructure.

Tibor Komroczki
Tibor Komroczki was recently promoted to Head of the Refining Integrated Process Information and Automation Department to further accelerate MOL’s adoption and use of information and automation technologies underpinned by the PI System across MOL’s Refining Division. Since 2009, when he was promoted to Head of Refining Process Information, Komroczki has been influential in the evolution of the PI System within MOL from a tactical “historian” to a strategic enterprise integration and applications infrastructure.
In 1987, after obtaining a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering and an M.Sc in Computer Engineering, Komroczki joined MOL, starting in the engineering department. Over the next fourteen years, he held several positions before joining the Process Information Department in 2001 where he led the development of many information projects.
