Increasing Yield in Pharma using SmartFactory Rx Application Platform and the PI System
In this talk, Janssen and Applied Materials will discuss how we’ve partnered together to leverage the experience and software products of the semi-conductor industry, SmartFactory Rx and the PI System to deliver business improvements in a pharma manufacturing. Our partnership journey includes investigating how PI System data, the PI AF infrastructure, and SmartFactory Rx platform can be leveraged to minimize process variability and maximize product yield. Our mission is to explore a wide range of machine learning (including prediction) algorithms for route-cause analysis and corrective actions, generating instructions to operators or feed-forward control. Our project aims to deliver significant gains in both process and maintenance efficiencies, while reducing in human error using advanced technologies. The system is designed to scale easily across the business all while leveraging the power of the PI System Infrastructure.

Ashley Howard
Over the past 12 years, Ashley has worked in the pharmaceutical industry whose leadership both inspires and influences her thinking. In her current role at Applied Materials, she is responsible for Global Strategic Accounts for an emerging market team bringing semi-conductor advanced plant automated manufacturing, SmartFactory Rx, into the pharmaceutical industry. SmartFactory Rx introduces “plant-in-a-box” supply chain advancement that will allow pharmaceutical companies to deliver patient therapies with greater efficiencies, higher quality, more throughput, and at a lower cost.
Ashley’s work experience includes 5 years at two bio-tech start-up projects in the Boston area. The other time working at OSIsoft and Applied Materials to help customers use technology for business improvement.
