2018 - PI World - San Francisco - Power Generation
Digital Transformation Initiatives for Power Generation
Mitsui & Co, Ltd (Mitsui) launched a digital transformation pilot at Central Saltillo. This plant is owned by MT Falcon, a 40% subsidiary of Mitsui. This experiment consisted of the replication of the current PI server of Central Saltillo in a Cloud environment in Tokyo. Real time communication between both systems is done by using the SaaS PI Cloud Connect. This solution allows sharing time series data and meta-data from our PI AF structure, so asset and analytics can also be transferred without the necessity of a VPN. In addition the Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) software “Predict-it” of the partner of OSIsoft “Engineering Consultant Group” was installed in the Cloud. The main purpose of this project was to demonstrate the improvement of availability and the reduction of maintenance cost by using these technologies: Big Data + Cloud Computing + Machine Learning (APR) + System integration. The use of plant data to feed the APR is providing early warning before a failure occurs.
