Blowout Preventer Monitoring (Shell,Accenture)
A blowout preventer (BOP) is pressure control safety equipment that is used during the drilling and completion of oil and gas wells. In the event of a loss of well control, the BOP serves as the final safeguard by shearing the drillstring and sealing the wellbore.
In 2014, Shell created a team tasked with deploying new processes and digital technologies to ensure the proper functioning of BOP's. Powered by the PI System, the BOP Reliability Application Suite brings maintenance and equipment failure information, machine learning analytics, and time-series data together in a single platform that has been recognized by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement as an industry leading solution for ensuring BOP integrity.
