Better Data Quality for Better Data Science with the PI System
Data Quality is much more than good or bad. It’s the how and what of the data collection process. All data has many “qualities” that affect our analysis of the data. Sensors have inaccuracies, data streams lack context, and processes have distinct states that may explain why the data is how it is. These qualities affect us all, whether we are the type that works in spreadsheets or in Jupyter. This talk will explore the aspects of data quality, why data quality is important, and what each of us can do to improve data quality in the PI System. Every stakeholder from Process Engineers to Data Scientists has a role in this process.

Brandon Perry
Brandon works in the Research group at OSIsoft, responsible for making operational data more accessible to wide audiences. His areas of focus are data semantics, contextualization and quality. Brandon has given invited lectures to academia and industry and is active on projects in the SIRIUS research consortium. He joined OSIsoft in 2009, spending his first several years working with customers as a data access and asset modeling specialist before moving into product development. Brandon holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Keary Rogers
Keary Rogers joined TransCanada in 2005 and has held several roles with increasing responsibilities. Keary has over 20 years of oil and gas transmission, production, and exploration experience. Keary is the Manager of Core Reliability, accountable for the strategic development and execution of Real-time Predictive Analytics, Performance, and Optimization of the compression fleet for TransCanada U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines. His responsibilities cover over 800+ compression units in 37 states.

Ionut Buse
Ionut has been with TransCanada since 2011. His work is focused around development and implementation of algorithms within Enterprise Analytics (EA), a Real-Time Monitoring Solution for the compression assets. He holds a double Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from West Virginia Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Marshall University.
