OSIsoft’s PI System Selected by Idaho National Laboratory for Testing and Evaluating Smart Grid Technologies
INL will leverage the PI System to help public and private organizations accelerate the adoption of advanced energy technologies
San Leandro, CA: OSIsoft LLC, a leader in operational intelligence, is pleased to announce it is supporting research conducted with DOE's Idaho National Laboratory (INL). OSIsoft will provide INL with the PI System® and technical expertise for the testing and evaluation of microgrid components.
The mounting challenges facing energy security and resilience range from distributed energy management to cyber intrusion. Maintaining readiness and planning for current and future energy security threats is top of mind across the energy sector.
“We look forward to continuing to provide the same trusted PI System architecture to INL as we do for worldwide organizations, the majority of Critical Infrastructure Key Resources (CIKR), our Department of Defense, and other federal partners to aid INL's efforts of solving real-world challenges,” said Steve Sarnecki, Strategic Accounts Executive for the Department of Energy at OSIsoft.
The collaboration between OSIsoft and INL enables government and industry partners to advance the adoption of microgrid and renewable technologies. Collaboration is a critical component of the business model at INL, which works with the Department of Defense and other government agencies, industry stakeholders, technology vendors, and academia to accelerate the adoption of standards-based, advanced energy technologies.
The creator of the PI System, OSIsoft supports research between government and industry efforts to advance situational awareness for energy systems. These efforts include delivery of real-time transmission and distribution data to provide more controls and options for energy providers.
OSIsoft announced the research initiative with INL focused on the development of a microgrid monitoring system. The goal is to enhance security and resilient operations of critical infrastructure and related systems.
OSIsoft and INL are leveraging the PI System into operational research to:
- Improve operational resiliency across critical infrastructure and networks
- Increase situational awareness for any operational domain
- Understand return on investment for renewable technology investments
- Enhance microgrid operations and sustainment
- Eliminate silos of operational data and creating a common operational picture
OSIsoft delivers an open enterprise infrastructure, The PI System, to connect sensor-based data, systems and people. The result: real-time, actionable insights that empower companies to optimize and transform their business.
